Lived his early life in Ilfracombe, Devon until 1951 when he moved to Wallasey. His wife Ethel (Joan) originated from the Wirral area and her parents still lived there at the time of their move.

Left school aged 15 years to become a salesman with Montague Burton - Tailors

Became a Sales Representative initially with a wholesale tobacconists, later with United Biscuits and finally with two pharmaceutical companies, Jansen and Lundbeck.

Progressed in the pharmaceutical company to become Managing Director of Lundbeck in the UK, Managing Director of new subsidiary in Ireland and Vice President with the parent company in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In June 1996 started his own Management Consultancy Business working with pharmaceutical companies until his retirement in April 2008
